The Kirklees Employment Team strongly believes that everyone has the right to be treated in the way that they want to be, and that there should be no factors which stop this within employment and/or education and volunteering. We can offer focused support to anyone who is struggling in employment/education/training/volunteering due to their identity and we will create a personalised support plan with you to ensure we are resolving all issues in a way that makes you feel comfortable. In addition, our Peer Support Courses are available for anyone to access to support with mental wellbeing and offer an inclusive and non-judgemental space. We also work with lots of other organisations in the area, so if you feel that you need additional focused support around identity and sexuality then we can signpost to these.

New Service in Kirklees for 2025!

LEVEL - LGBTQ+ Domestic Abuse Programme

LEVEL is a new, community-informed trial programme supporting LGBTQ+ people where there is harm in intimate relationships.

LEVEL offers a 22-week, one-to-one intervention alongside dedicated support for current and former partners affected by harm.

LEVEL supports accountability, reduces harm, and helps build safer futures – all within a framework that understands the impact of identity, discrimination and trauma.

Run by The Brunswick Centre and WomenCentre, LEVEL is part of the Drive Partnership’s national effort to reshape responses to domestic abuse. LEVEL recognises the real and complex experiences of LGBTQ+ people and is designed to fill the gaps left by traditional services that often exclude or overlook LGBTQ+ relationships.

LGBTQ+ Support in Kirklees

yOUTh LGBTQ Young People’s Service at The Brunswick Centre

Support offered includes:

One-to-one support for young people around their sexual orientation and/or gender identity
Family Support for parents and families of LGBTQ+ young people
LGBTQ+ youth groups (these groups are closed access )
Online and over-the-phone support
Schools and partnership work
Research into the further needs of LGBTQ+ young people
Chances to influence local services

Trans Group Workshops at The Brunswick Centre

Trans Group workshops are a 6-week workshop for parents and carers of young people under 25 who identify as transgender, non-binary or genderfluid. Workshops are held in Huddersfield town centre and are a safe space, where parents and carers can access practical advice and emotional support.

They provide an opportunity to increase awareness of LGBTQ+ identities. Additionally, there will be quarterly groups and family socials.

The Brunswick Centre

The Brunswick Centre not only offers the two separate groups listed above, they offer a range of other services including sexual health support, Counselling, Training, Smoking Cessation, and HIV Prevention and Support Services.

Yorkshire MESMAC

Although there is no base in Kirklees, Yorkshire MESMAC offers online information and resources which is focused for the following communities:

People of colour and other marginalised races
Gay, Bi and other men who have sex with men
Commercial sex workers (varying genders depending on the location)
LGBT+ Young People
Trans Communities

Huddersfield Gay Group (HuGG)

Social group for gay men 18+ meets every Tuesday at 7:30pm. Games, quizzes and guest speakers. Full diary of activities and further information on our website. Refreshments available.

After the meeting ends around 9pm we round off the evening with a drink in a local pub. Also meets at other times for meals out, 10 pin bowling, theatre, nights out and weekends away.

Happy Valley Pride

Based in Calderdale this group hosts lots of events throughout the year for the LGBTQ+ Community. There are also resource’s available on the website including podcasts which discuss topics such as mental health and wellbeing for the LGBTQ+ community.

Here for You

If you, or somebody you know, are struggling and not sure where to go for help Here For You have local teams available every night of the year from 6pm until midnight across Leeds, Kirklees, and Wakefield.

We offer 45minute 1-to-1 support, which can be face to face, or over the phone if you struggle to leave your home. We also offer a safe space where you can be around other people and have access to free food, refreshments, and signposting to other support locally if you need it.

LGBT Hero

LGBT HERO is the national health and wellbeing charity supporting over 100,000 LGBTQ+ people a month by providing trusted information, advice and various types of support including one-to-one, group and peer-support.

LGBT HERO aims to improve the health, enhance the wellbeing and champion the rights of LGBTQ+ people. LGBT HERO provides LGBTQ+ people with accurate and credible information so they can build skills that enable them to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.
